Book Club FAQ
What is safeguarding?
Safeguarding is the discipline within the Catholic Church dedicated to protecting children and vulnerable adults from harm.
While the Church has addressed abuse for decades, the modern framework of safeguarding accelerated significantly following the global abuse crisis. Key milestones include:
- 2011: The Vatican issued initial global guidelines for handling abuse cases.
- 2019: Following a historic summit of bishops, Pope Francis issued Vos estis lux mundi, which made reporting abuse mandatory for all clergy, and released comprehensive Guidelines for the Protection of Minors.
- Ongoing: These documents require every diocese to establish protection offices, conduct background checks, and implement “safe environment” training.
Today, safeguarding represents the Church’s commitment to transparency, accountability, and the safety of all members – not only in respect to sexual abuse but to emotional, psychological, and spiritual abuse as well.
How do live calls work?
Live calls are hosted online via a secure Zoom meeting-room. Your facilitator – Bernhard Streisselberger – guides the discussion, highlights key passages from the current book, and leads interactive exercises tied to main theme of Safeguarding. All members also receive a separate monthly 60‑minute Q&A call where they can ask deeper questions and get personalized advice.
Do I need to purchase the books myself?
Yes. The book club does not provide the reading material. Each title is linked to Amazon for convenient ordering. Please make sure your copy arrives before we begin reading the next book (i.e., before the start of each new reading cycle).
Can I watch the sessions later if I miss a live call?
Yes. All live sessions are recorded and uploaded to the members‑only library within 24 hours. All members can stream the recordings at any time.
Do I need prior knowledge of safeguarding, psychology or theology?
No. The program is designed for beginners and seasoned practitioners alike. We start with foundational concepts before moving into deeper applications.
Will there be guest speakers or experts?
Periodically, we invite psychologists, theologians, trauma‑informed coaches, and authors to join our live calls or Q&A sessions. These events are announced in advance and are included at no extra cost for all members.
How do I sign up?
Select the desired tier and billing cycle, then complete the secure checkout.
Is there a refund policy?
If you cancel within the first 10 days of a new subscription (monthly or annual), we’ll issue a full refund.
After that period, refunds are not provided, but you may continue to use the service until the end of your paid term.
How does the Discord channel work ?
All members receive an invitation to a private Discord server where they can:
• Continue discussions between monthly calls
• Share personal insights, resources, and experiences
• Vote on upcoming book selections
• Receive announcements, bonus content and a 60‑minute Q&A group call per month
The server is moderated to keep the environment supportive and trauma‑informed.
What are the “Book Club Cheat Sheets”?
Cheat sheets are concise, PDF‑style summaries that capture the most important takeaways, and actionable tips for each session. They are designed for quick reference and are offered to all members.
Can I suggest a book for future sessions?
Absolutely! All members can vote on upcoming titles directly in the Discord channel.
Are there any discounts for other Thresh Mountains products?
Members receive exclusive coupon codes (typically 10–20 % off) for other Thresh Mountains offerings, such as webinars, coaching packages, and digital courses. Coupons are distributed periodically via the Discord channel and member email newsletters.
How is my privacy protected?
All member data – including login credentials, payment information, and discussion content – is stored securely. We never sell or share personal data with third parties.
Who can I contact for support?
